City of Poulsbo Centennial Celebration

The City of Poulsbo is celebrating 100 years of civic service in 2008! Poulsbo was offically declared a town and held its first Council meeting on January 7, 1908.
Many of you may remember celebrating Poulsbo's 100 years on the Fjord in 1986. That marked the centennial of the Poulsbo Post Office. In 1886, Iver Moe, a settler from Paulsbo, Norway, felt there was enough people in town to warrant a post office. When he sent the application in, the Postmaster misread Moe's handwriting and named the town Poulsbo, rather than Paulsbo.
In 2006, the Poulsbo City Council budgeted seed money to initiate fundraising for the 2008 centennial celebrations. The Community Services Committee appointed council member Connie Lord to chair the Centennial Committee that has been tasked with planning these celebrations. The Centennial Committee is made of city representatives as well as representatives from local organizations including the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce, Poulsbo Historical Society, Historical Downtown Poulsbo Association, Sons of Norway, and many citizen volunteers. The Centennial Committee meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 11:00am at the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce conference room.
